Choosing the Right Ski Resort for You Thompsons Holidays offers two exquisite ski resorts in Austria, each offering dream ski and snow holiday experiences. The resorts are manned by our own team of friendly and experienced South African staff during the peak season who are on hand to assist you during your stay and ensure that your ski experience is as memorable as possible. Kitzbuhel, Austria This magical old Tyrolean town is as famous for its trendy visitors as it is for fabulous après ski life and the renowned annual Hahnenkamm World Cup race course. Kitzbühel has it all – olde worlde charm, fabulous shopping, excellent skiing and snowboarding and incredible nightlife. Take a look on pages 4 to 6 for all the info on this lively ski resort. Westendorf, Austria This small, charming and personal ski resort is part of the extensive Ski Welt area, so it offers an incredible variety of ski opportunities. It is also reasonably priced and ideal for those who prefer the charm of a small town. Turn to page 7 and 8 to find out more… Thompsons Rep Service During the South African peak season (12 December to 09 January) a Thompsons Representative will be available in the resorts to assist with transfers, ski school bookings and ski equipment rental and fitting. Our representatives are available to answer any questions and assist with the booking of excursions andoptional activities. Medical Insurance Enjoy peace of mind skiing with Thompsons Holidays. All Thompsons packages include comprehensive travel insurance with TIC. Travel Insurance Consultants (TIC) is the market leader in travel insurance in South Africa and provides a ski travel insurance product specifically for Thompsons ski holidays. Benefits include emergency medical cover for illness or injury up to R10 million as well as luggage loss cover of R10,000. Speak to your experienced consultant for more details. Transfers Seat-In-Coach (SIC) transfers from Munich Airport are available during the South African peak season (12 Dec ‘09 to 09 Jan ‘10). To take advantage of this service it is essential that your arrival and departure times coincide with the times of our coach. Private transfers are available throughout the ski season and can be reserved on your behalf at an additional cost. Passengers travelling from 09 January 2010 will be booked on private transfers. 
 
What to Pack It is very important to make sure you have the right clothing as the weather can change very quickly in the mountains. Ski clothing should be warm, practical and weather proof. You’ll find it is more comfortable to have a few layers of thin, warm clothes on rather than thick bulky garments. Jackets and ski pants should be lightweight but wind proof and waterproof. Ensure the leg cuffs are wide enough to go over the top of ski boots. Always take a beanie and waterproof gloves. Sun rays are intensified at high altitudes so remember to wear sun glasses and use a high factor sun block. Ski Equipment Hire One of the first stops after arrival in your chosen resort is the ski equipment outlet. Here you will be fitted for your ski gear which includes skis, ski boots, ski poles and helmet. Please note that your ski hire does not include clothing. Snowboards and boots are also available for hire (enquire for rates). Ski Schools Ski School is fun, informative and the most practical way to get you onto the slopes. If you have never skied or tried snowboarding before, it is recommended that you take lessons. Classes are allocated according to your experience. Ski School for children is also great fun and is offered in a safe, happy environment with qualified ski instructors. Ski Pass Your ski pass gives you access to the ski lifts, ski runs and busses in the region. The Kitzbuhel Pass Features 170km of the best prepared ski runs and 33km of marked ski routes in the Kitzbuhel area. Includes night-time skiing as well as day and night-time tobogganing. WestendorfSkiWelt Pass This pass allows you to ski the entire SkiWelt area, made up of 8 neighbouring villages, without having to catch a single bus. A total 250 km of pistes, ideal for the beginner and intermediate skiers, and 128 ski lifts are yours to enjoy. |
